Just a Still LIfe

First Graders learned 

about artist Henri Matisse

this week and created a still 

life to record the beauty of the flowers.

The Peaceable Kingdom

Today in art class first grade students pondered what the world was like before sin in the Garden of Eden. They used words such as perfect, beautiful, peaceful, and calm. We viewed Edward Hicks painting The Peaceable Kingdom and read Isaiah 11:6 "The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them."   Students then had the opportunity to work together in teams to create their own version of The Peaceable Kingdom. I loved watching them talk about how to decide where to place objects on the paper, mix new colors, and clean up together.  

Students used chalk to sketch out their ideas.

We discussed how all of our ideas might not be used. 

They needed to create a stream, trees, sky, and land. 

Students then added paint and mixed a variety of colors
because God wants us to see all the variety in his creation.

Students thought about the various types of
trees he gave us to provide shade!

Today we finished our landscape.

will add animals and people.
