The "Disappearance of the Apple" Drawing

"This was the best art class ever!" one of the kindergarten boys said at the end of the day!  This fall we observed how Paul Cezanne painted his apples.  We decided that we should draw and eat our apple!  Students observed their our own apple carefully, looking for the bumps, spots, dots, and specific colors of their apple.  They drew, then took a bite, then drew some more. You would be impressed by how quickly they learned to draw an apple. Feel free to try it out on broccoli at home!

Kindergarten Self-Portraits

Kindergarten Art - Self-Portraits
You would not believe these kids!  They are so creative!  One of my favorite first art projects for kindergarteners is to have them draw a self-portrait and a family portrait. I love learning all about your families in art class through their drawings. We talked briefly about how even if families move or change they are always part of your family, no matter what.  I used the example that my sister lives very far away yet I will always call her my sister.  We closed the hour with the concept that we are also a part of God's family and that he will love us no matter what!

You will want to keep these drawings for their high school graduation open house. They are precious!
